Moving home is a big deal.

January 01, 2020

And when you are making a decision that big, it helps to be guided by someone you trust.

Having recently won Business Start-Up of the Year by West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce Gavin wanted to portray his approachability. The goal was to create a series of headshots he could use on various platforms and printed literature.

Your home is a safe space, having a stranger explore every nook and cranny can feel invasive. In an industry like Gavin’s, having headshots like these can allay clients’ fears. Being able to recognise that stranger from their image breaks the ice and lets your client feel at ease. This opens the doos to new opportunities and new business.

If getting new business is something you are interested in getting this year, lets talk.

Tailor made travel just for you.

November 15, 2019

I had the pleasure of Daniel from Mi Travel coming to my studio this week as he wanted to update his headshots for the two businesses he runs.

He already has images he uses for the likes of LinkedIn, his email signature and the likes but is keen to keep them fresh and relevant.

The criteria for this shoot was to present a professional but friendly persona (which is Daniel all over) so it was decided to keep the background simple (utilising black, white and grey backgrounds) and keep the focus on Daniel’s face.

Headshots like these are a great way to show potential and existing clients exactly who you are and help them build trust in you, which is especially important when conducting your business online or over the phone and when meeting your clients for the first time.

If you want to refresh your online images, please get in touch.

All to play for.

November 12, 2019

As adults, we often forget about what we were able to achieve as children through play. We learnt, we experimented, we laughed, we relaxed and we weren’t afraid to fail when trying something new.

Photography is one medium that can allow you to play again, it certainly encourages me to play, get messy and experiment with ideas.

One great way to do this is with liquid photography, trying to capture various liquids being moved in different ways creates images that not only can we not see with our eyes, but creates organic shapes that can never be replicated in exactly the same way again.

Recently I went into the studio to capture water splashes in various types of glasses to see the differences glass shape can have on the results.

I used 2 lights in strip boxes through my homemade scrims on either side of the glass. The background was the black side of a v-flat and the glass rested on a smokey black piece of glass from Ikea.

To create the splashes I used some acrylic ice cubes I purchased from The Set Shop in NYC on my trip there last April.

From here is was just a matter of dropping the ice cubes into the glass of water repeatedly and using a remote trigger to fire the camera manually.

What do you do?

July 19, 2019

Now that I am networking more I hear this question a lot.

And I cringe at saying I'm a photographer as the next question will ultimately be 'Do you do weddings and babies?'

I'm not sure if it's because that is what most people think of when they hear the word photographer. Or because I am a female. But no, I do not do weddings and babies but I can refer you to some great photographers who specialise in those areas if that is what you want.

I spoke to a good friend and mentor, Gail, about this very subject and she told me how she described me to people. She started off asking them to imagine a boring glass of water. Nothing very exciting about a glass of water. She then moved on to making them think about a hot, summers day and reaching out for a cool glass of refreshing water to cool them down.

She evoked their emotions. They could feel the condensation on the glass, feel the cold ice against their lips, the cool water sliding down their throats. But most of all they could feel that bliss that only a cold drink on a hot day evokes. That, she says, is what I capture.

So what do I do?

I capture the emotions businesses want their customers to experience with their products through photography.
